SUMMARY:First Steps Nutrition: Best Foot Forward Conference
DESCRIPTION:First Steps Nutrition Trust is a small\, independent public health nutrition charity which provides expert\, evidence based\, conflict of interest free information and resources for health professionals working to promote good nutrition from pre-conception to five years. This year’s conference will focus on ‘Eating well in the first year of life’ – with information on new national guidance on nutrition in the first year\, new practical support for early years’ settings in England and new evidence summaries to support the WHO global strategy on infant and young child feeding. We will also reflect on challenges to better infant formula regulation\, consider the role of commercial baby foods and will look at how settings can practically support families around food and behaviour change. We hope that everyone who comes along will contribute to thinking before the event. The day itself is an opportunity to meet others working your field\, find out about new projects\, and feel inspired that what you do really does matter.

DESCRIPTION:Breastfeeding LENS are delighted to be hosting an afternoon workshop suitable for all those involved in supporting mothers\, such as; IBCLCs\, midwives\, health visitors\, GPs\, counsellors\, psychotherapists\, complimentary & alternative therapists\, doulas\, and peer supporters.\nThe event is an afternoon workshop led by Michelle Cree BSc (Hons)\, Psychology\, MSc Clinical Psychology. \nMichelle who is an Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society\, membership number 71703 and a member of Health Practitioners Council\, says “The compassionate mind approach looks at the critical importance of feeling safe\, soothed\, and connected in relation to others\, but also in relation to ourselves\, in being able to get through times when we are struggling. It helps us to heal after childbirth recover when breastfeeding is painful\, connect to our baby\, and to have access to different ways of thinking through difficulties.” \n3 L-CERPs have been awarded by IBLCE for this event. Also showing the film ‘Tigers’ \nE-CERPS applied for.\n \nBreastfeeding LENS Limited is delighted to be able to offer this exclusive event which highlights the work of the International Baby Food Action Network (IBFAN) and Baby Milk Action.  \nThe event is half a day of thought provoking study beginning with the screening of the film Tigers. \nTigers is a new film by Oscar-winning director Danis Tanovic based on the true story of a former Nestlé baby milk salesman in Pakistan called Syed Aamir Raza taking on the industry with the help of IBFAN (the International Baby Food Action Network) when he realises that babies are dying as a result of his work pressuring doctors to promote formula. \nOne character in the film embodies some of the IBFANers who helped Aamir\, including Tracey Wagner-Rizvi\, Andreas Adelberger and Baby Milk Action’s Patti Rundall and Mike Brady. \nLimited places: http://www.breastfeeding-lens.eventbrite.co.uk/\nA cinema screening of ‘Tigers’ film (under festival licence).
